@iliana @nergdron is there anything better than ansible atm anyhow ;-;

@nergdron @iliana my issue last time i tried salt was that (iirc) the tutorial only talked about managing state from the command line

@er1n @nergdron @iliana puppet works for me, I like its syntax. It's not very good for doing what Ansible does, it's only for managing state imo

@wxcafe @er1n @iliana yeah I did years of puppet. in general it works alright, but I found that their custom DSL is where all the bugs are, and damn were there some frustrating bugs over the years.

still. way more practically useful than ansible.

@nergdron @er1n @iliana both work fine for me I guess. We do have Very good ansible roles and playbooks at work tho, my personal ones are very basic. My puppet setup is a bit more involved but nothing too fancy. I'm not hitting bugs anyway so I guess you're probably doing way bigger stuff than me ^^

@wxcafe @er1n @iliana ahhhh yeah that's probably it. I think all of the major systems are probably fine for smaller scale usage. i'm just too used to having to wrangle large scale deploys these days. 😄

@samis @nergdron @er1n @iliana because Unix wasn’t meant to be used in places where it is used today but we can’t bring ourselves as an industry to move on to something that actually works for our various use cases and is reliable and engineered correctly so everything is made out of hacks on top of more hacks, and configuration management software try to build on top of this. @wxcafe @nergdron @er1n @iliana moving on to something that actually works and is reliable and engineered first requires that something to exist. That is personally doubtful.
