apparently power is out on a lot of the campus and the chilled water air conditioning system which a most of the buildings use is also dead today. temperature still moderate in my office.

it was so awful - the internet at my house was out for like 25 hours.

Internet at home was down since 9pm last night. Not sure if back up, am at office. Got little work done today. Hopefully it's working when I get back home.

"anti-capitalist" is the only kind of "an-cap" I like.

Was going to go to the gym but apparently they're doing the $STATE Games this weekend and there's no parking. Will go at night, I guess.

So I had to pop into somebody's office and they were eating lunch and they were just eating chickpeas straight up. Not like in a sauce or with other stuff, just straight chickpeas. Maybe they were in some kind of brine or something. But just straight chickpeas. #chickpea

Bumped back half an hour - still not enough time to get all the things done.

Because, of course, I do.

Of course, I must throw in the boilerplate here that I assent to all the teachings of the Church on faith and morals etc etc lest anybody fall across what I say and misconstrue its contents and accuse me of heresy or something and write a letter to somebody which will promptly be ignored; I do take issue with pastoral applications of the teachings and with certain assholes within the Church.

Currently in the #Orthodox world, there's a lot of nonsense going around as well, which contributed. So a popular Russian nun wrote a blog post advising somebody whose 14 yr old son came out. Now, it's non-affirming, as the official Church position is, but it was about as good as that can get: love your son unconditionally, if he wants to date you should let him do so openly and even have him over for dinner, love your kid and let him make his own choices. Of course, tons of people exploded over this with decidedly un-helpful and un-compassionate responses. Who wants to deal with that noise?!

And I can't really blame her. If you can't bring your friends to church, what's the point? If you want come without having to deal with psychological trauma, why bother? Maybe it'll even out over time. Maybe it won't. But it's like, you know, we do believe in God regardless, and a God bigger than this who we think will guide the church out of this nonsense, but too many people are getting put through the grinder in the interim and I don't blame somebody who doesn't want to be one of them for staying out of it. #religion #christianity #sigh

Short story here is that my wife may simply not be coming to church for the near future because she just can't deal with the stupid trauma of it. I mean we get that they're not affirming etc etc but that's something that can be worked on and hopefully they won't be *rude* about it. But anyway what happened is the priest made a passing snide remark about "identity". And it's like, that wasn't a fair representation of others to make, and even if you were right, if I brought (say) a lesbian friend today they would just be insulted, not edified. So she just decided that it's not worth the mental effort anymore to show up. #religion
