also this is kinda related but I have a younger cousin who is 100% Gen Z and it still baffles me that he wants to hang out with me

he has all of these great games and gatchets and things and he just wants to hang out and watch lego movie or sharknado with me and compare afros

also when I volunteer I speak to the most down to earth, courageous self-assured fantastic teens and like

youths are so precious

and I have to be all tsundere so they don't know how precious I think they are bc I have to maintain street cred and cool vibe

Young people are so great. They/we are creative and passionate and lively and feisty and don't deserve 1/10th of the shit that we/older folks give them.

Can you imagine how far we'd be if we nurtured those qualities instead of shaming them and imposing one ideal of what it means to "grow up"?

The morals of the story are:

(1) Who cares if people get into something because of ___? They share your hobby now. The more the merrier.

(2) If you spend less time putting people into arbitrary boxes of cool vs uncool, geek vs non-geek, you'd realize you probably have some common interests.

Nobody on this goddamn planet thinks that anime is for geeks and shameful and weird and bad. Nobody. Stop with self-isolation to justify your misogyny. It's gross.

People don't like you because you're an asshole, NOT because you're a self-described "geek" who likes anime.

It's because you're an asshole buddy.

People don't reveal and express their interests in "nerd" things for you to see because you ridicule them for it.

And even if we/they *did* change our interests, or develop an interest in something because someone brought it to our attention

I went to an all girl school. I spent 90% of my time surrounded by a multitude of women. Cis women. Trans women. Gay and bi and pan women. Asexual and aromantic women. Hetero women. Disabled women. Poor women. Rich women. Black women. Immigrant women. I know em all.

And never in my fucking life have I ever seen any of them change and fake their interests for a dood or a celebrity. Not every. Nope. Nah.

It's just not realistic fam.
