Maybe they're not ready.
Maybe they don't know how to be a spouse.
Maybe it's better tax-wise not to.
Maybe they're waiting for something.
Maybe they're against the institution of marriage.
Maybe they're afraid things will change for the worst.
Maybe they want to be sure, and don't like take-backsies bc they've seen marriages crumble in their family.
Pushing them into it is likely to cause a shit ton of problems and like, don't you want them to do it of their own volition?

This is a perfect example of an amazing amazing read that really made me hate the Simpsons.
