White Americans, I got a question for yall:
Why do some of yall romanticize serial killers????????? They're... killers???????????????????????????
White French people: Do yall have a subculture obsessed with serial killers? Or is it just us????
@guerrillarain I wouldn't be surprised, 'cause I knew some Belgian people like that
@AliceinCrystalTokyo Interestingggggg. Thanks for this!
@guerrillarain I don't know. I guess so? We must have imported this from the USA, like every thing else.
But I never saw people into that.
@Sylvhem Mmmmm, okay. Just curious. Thanks for this, Sylvhem!
@guerrillarain No problems!
@guerrillarain 💯💯💯💯💯
I caught shit from my mom once for having Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" album.
If i had a Dahmer shirt that would have been GG for Y.T.
@somarasu My mother wouldn't let me listen to any rock music because she thought it was a "gateway" drug to trench coats and Columbine so, I'm just confused how it escalates to wearing Dahmer on a tee shirt
@guerrillarain one could probably do a master or doctoral project on everything that ties into this ... racism, vigilante justice, etc
@alice the truuuuuuth
@alice @guerrillarain YAASSS THAT'S JUST WHAT I WAS THINKIN'!
@guerrillarain Not American, and I don’t know about wearing serial killer fashion, but I am always tempted to write to a girl serial killer. Which I guess could be romanticising, and I recognise that I would easily be manipulated and murdered which keeps that weird urge at bay.
@XamppRocky Interesting! And what makes you tempted?
(asking in a non-judgy way)
@guerrillarain I guess the more I think about it is the danger of talking to them. I know that they are capable of something incredibly horrible, that they could easily manipulate and control people and I almost am testing my own resolve even talking to them.
@guerrillarain I think it’s got to be because they are so clever and crafty I guess? I’m not into them or into things like Hannibal, but I did binge on true crime as a teenager and I wonder if it was because in my perception would be something that scary could threaten me? Or possibly the idea that evil could be right next-door to you?
@guerrillarain but I had extremely high anxiety as a kid and as a teenager and the general fascination with true crime and serial killers in my culture really fucked me up.
@ruth Mmm. But I mean, a lot of people indulge in 'true crime' shows right? My 🚩 🚩 🚩 moments are in reference to the glorification, and like wishing you could be friends with those killers and *wearing them*, as opposed to what you've said. Like your words make sense to me. That is understandable idk
@guerrillarain yeah, I admit I will sometimes be impressed by famous women who did shit in history, but generally they poisoned a bunch of men or something. So it’s not the serial killing, it’s the gender vengeance. But I wonder if that has ties to the clever and crafty thing.
@guerrillarain there are entire tv channels dedicated to watching murder victims grieve and reenact various murders
I never understood it either
@ambyrb I used to be super into horror movies and like the Hannibal series... but when it came to actual reality, I still can't stomach it, like even just wikipedia pages of real events disturb me so much. Fiction, fine. Reality. Mmmmmm nah.
@guerrillarain thing is, this is probably mainly white women in their mid 40s with kids watching this trash right after whatever abc airs
@guerrillarain Do you ever just scroll through that part of Tumblr like... how did you get here. How did they get like this
@Trev TBH I am so afraid of tumblr now because it makes me wonder how much of the general population it reflects
death-adjacent Afficher plus
@guerrillarain I think it's partially facing fear but also, like, a jealousy of the simplicity of not having any morals.
There is not a black person alive who would ever get caught in a MANSON choker or a Dahmer tee shirt, I'm just trying to understand how we got to this point.
