One time i was in the car with my parents and we were listening to this talk show on satellite radio.
The topic was on spanking and how it was basically BS, and they went into the link between spanking and slavery (and how it's basically just hold-over behavior).

If you go back far enough with that whole "my $grandparent spanked me and $greatGrandparent spanked them..", eventually you'll hit "my $ancestor was spanked by $slaveMaster"
