me: I'm gonna apply for new jobs, why do I even work here.

*all recommended jobs on linkedin are 20-25 hours, hourly pay, with 5 years of experience required*

ah, right. that's why.

why the fuck does every entry-level job require 2-5 years of experience does anyone know what that word means

@guerrillarain NOPE. this is late stage capitalist bullshit at its finest. tech is especially fun since they often ask for 5+ years experience in a piece of tech that didn't exist 5 years ago. 😣

@guerrillarain it means you have a time turner or sweet sweet connections elsewhere.

(A dear family member is fighting this right now, she is brilliant and highly educated. LOL 2 YEARS XP THX BYE)

@pnathan @guerrillarain @nergdron The curse of outsourcing means that most entry-level jobs are now being done either by automation or by people overseas because those skills could be outsourced. Now there aren't enough people here doing them to get the experience needed to do the senior work, so that gets outsourced to H1-B visas and more automation.

Smash capitalism.

@guerrillarain more precisely, every entry-level job advertisement *says* it requires 2-5 years experience.

i wonder though if that means that a person stands a good chance of getting laid off before 5 years on the job, which is still apparently entry level experience.

@guerrillarain
Yeah they do, and that is the problem.
When you begin asking for experience for something entry level there are concerns with the work environment and how demanding it is. Which is most jobs at this point.
