I went into a sensory deprivation tank today. Wild.
@guerrillarain what did you experience?
@kara_dreamer so essentially it was a small shallow pool with a door that sealed a little so there was no light and the water was so salty that as soon as you get on your back, you float. So I laid there and tried to think about my writing or tarot or work but my brain kinda just wanted to enjoy the silence and floating sensation and darkness.
@kara_dreamer I fell asleep, I'm not sure for how long, but I felt awake for a lot of it and just listened to my heart beat.
@guerrillarain curious! sounds a little reminiscent of my one experience of anaesthesia, especially the "feeling awake"
@guerrillarain that's pretty cool. There used to be some near my old house, but the closed and I moved. Thank you for sharing your experience, I've been curious if my mind's able to find a reward from its use. :3
@Filene It depends on each person. I guess the more you go, the more you can adjust to it to really focus or think about something. But I felt totally relaxed, the water was at body temp too so you kinda forget you're there.
@Filene HOWEVER when everything was over was really upsetting because you go from silence and darkness and floating and peace to bright lights and noise and the cold. Really jarring and probably moreso if I wasn't already awake in the tank.
@guerrillarain wow, the one I waited at had a nice waiting room, but I forgot what such a transition'd be like.. Did they have a less good recovery room, or none? Hmm..
@Filene none, you step out into a bright light directly into a shower and it's private but it's right next to another unit so no kind of buffer or anything.
@guerrillarain how long a session?
