The obsession with recreating plantation weddings and reliving chattel slavery glory days is so sickening, what the hell is wrong with people.
In any case, my great-grandmother, whom I used to spend a lot of time with when I was younger, was born and raised on a plantation so this is hella personal, so dear followers, if you ever meet anyone romanticizing slavery/Confederacy, kick them in the fucking shins so hard on my behalf at the very least.
@guerrillarain gotta be honest some articles I won't click
does not deserve my eyeballs
@guerrillarain Why is this a thing?!
@guerrillarain Been thinking about this a lot lately. Kinda realizing that there's this trend of depictions of slavery that have this current of "this is bad because these masters are *very very abusive* and cruel." Kinda get this vibe that there's this concept of a more positive, ok slavery... like what's done to "criminals", for instance.
@Ulfra_Wolfe Exactly!! People don't think slavery is bad because you are turning human beings into property and stripping them of every possible freedom, instead it's because of cruelty or not being a criminal...
which leads the way to: "So long as slaveowners are nice and the slave was someone who broke the law in any capacity, slavery is ok." 😒
@guerrillarain Yeah. Ultimately you still have a LOT of the same harm; destruction of culture, of language, erasure of a people. The ones profiting are still majority white, and those in charge of our society.
