@gravezwave it depends on the depth, wether it's a cut or a rip, the coagulation factor, the nutrition of the individual, the tissues affected, wether there's infection...
scars are fun (?)

@Efi a character of mine is in a brawl with somebody with a machete and we discussed the possibility of the blade going between two fingers and a bit into the palm of the hand when they try to grab it. infection seems likely if they live long enough afterwards for it to be a concern. I'm wondering how likely it is that the blade will actually cut down into the hand or if it'll be more likely to get deflected down and slice the palm.

@gravezwave if it's a defensive move, likely, if the machete is sharp, definitely
in any case, the scar would be very visible, the skin on the hands is very thin, so any cut stays as a scar
if the hand gets cut deep, not only would it be an ugly scar, but a permanent damage, constant pain and difficulty closing the hand
don't stop blades with your hand, it's a bad idea
