the only game ideas I've ever had are 1) my own overdone Yume Nikki game and 2) a dating sim where it's impossible to get a good ending if you follow the typical dating game tropes instead of interacting like a reasonable human being

@gravezwave I haven't played dating sims much before at all. Is "break them up so I get with one" a common trope?
@Ulfra_Wolfe I don't know if there are actually that many where you have to actively break up a relationship, but I've played a few that have a character who is in a prior relationship and going their route either reveals that their current s/o is bad in some way and pits you against them so you eventually "win" the love interest. which to me is kind of... sketchy, when you think about it.
@Ulfra_Wolfe I also just wanted to have a thing where there is no "correct" route that gets the character to fall in love with you for some of them. the best ending for one or two characters is that you can have a strong, fulfilling friendship and trying to force it to be romantic actually wrecks things.
@Ulfra_Wolfe so having them be in a relationship already seemed like a good framing device for that

People just have too many negative ideas of relationships, we need very positive portrayals.

@USBhump my original thought was a vaguely anime-esque fantasy setting maybe with one of those "woo someone to politically marry within this time limit" or something. honestly I've given more thought to the characters and their workings and relationships would be more immediate than an overarching plot. the two that are already dating were the punk tsundere that starts off hating you and some flavor of nicer character. it's still very barebones.
two of the love interests are already in a relationship and if you break them up so that you can get with one of them, one is only willing to date you because they're heartbroken and need a rebound and the other murders you
