ITIL training today is off to a good start, as we learn the course materials got sent to the wrong address. I thought the Methodology(TM) was supposed to prevent that?

We're so quick to frame crabs as cruel for pulling each other down when they try to escape buckets, yet we too rarely focus on the person who put them in the bucket in the first place.

The same goes for the idea of mantises eating the heads of their mates (apparently an artifact of lab conditions) and of the "alpha wolf" idea (wolves were forced into the company of unfamiliar wolves), among other facets of "common knowledge."

How many assumptions about human behavior follow this pattern?

The new Star Wars film is fine, but I think it’s time to stop making films (and TV and books and comics and games) for fans and have another go at making things that are actually good.

I said to her i find it unbelievable that she still smiles - which she does alot indeed. 😊

When the Bus arrived we smiled at each other and i felt some kind of respect between us. She blew me a kiss and wished me a happy New year in persian.

I feel charmed. And calm. And i wish that beautiful person all the best.

Had a human rights activist from Iran sharing the Bus bench with me. We talked about many different things. The Situation in Iran, her father and that it *will* be free again. ✊ and also gender neutral pronouns, equality, languages, names and their meanings...

She was 4 years younger than me and seemed to be very wise, thoughtful, respectful and somehow full of love and calmness. 🤔

being able to reach out on demand and grab most of the sum total of modern recorded music is pretty amazing regardless of the pains and missing bits. i might not like the architecture but the functionality is magic to a kid of the 1970s.

Interestingly, “With Bold Knife and Fork” turns out to be in dialogue with “The I Hate to Cook Book”. They’re a few years apart, but I think the real divide is aspirational upper-middle vs aspirational lower-middle class.

(Unless you’re baking, precision in recipes is mostly spurious and it does no good to pretend otherwise. Ingredients differ; tastes differ.)

And now I’m reading MFK Fisher’s “With Bold Knife and Fork” which is said to be a great classic of American food writing but gets off to a bad start with an essay against imprecision in recipes.

(The recipes look terrible, by and large, but the intensely practical attitude - for certain values of practical - is valuable.)

Just finished reading “The I Hate to Cook Book”, which - I think - is absolutely packed with very specific class markers that I can’t completely decode because I’m not a white American in 1962.

Good night mastodon. We may have to kill the metaphor of the internet-as-place in order to counter centralization as an instinctual internal vision. I think taking back the internet is one of the most important things we can do right now and I’m wondering how I can best do my part. Zzz
