I'm running my regular weekly RPG session tomorrow and I've just realised it's Halloween. So now I need an SF ghost story I can drop in a short notice.

The three main anarcho-syndicalist unions functioning in the Spanish State: Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), Confederación General del Trabajo (CGT) and Solidaridad Obrera, have released an official joint statement regarding the situation in Catalunya and their vision from an anarchist perspective on the creation of a Catalonia State.

When you listen to The Smiths you're always thinking 'I know what you mean and god yeah it hurts' but also 'jeez I never want to hang out with you Morrissey' and I'm guessing this is how Johnny Marr felt too

Prepping for tonight's Traveller game. I was going to drop the game entirely because I'd run out of ideas, but then a whole Indiana Jones-ish plotline dropped on me out of nowhere. Let's just hope I can make it work...

Tokyo Mirage Sessions isn’t so much underrated as completely overlooked, but I think it’s up there with Final Fantasy X-2 As one of my favourite JRPGs.

And I’ve been reading Winter’s Tide, which is a rather huggy revisionist take on Lovecraft. It’s nice to see a subversion of Lovecraft’s terror of the Other but there’s also a lot of (found) Family, and it’s not a theme that resonates with me. In fact, I think one reason I’m an anarchist is that anarchism promises a world where we can care for each other without it.

Stardew Valley update: it doesn’t make me anxious in the way Harvest Moon used to. Which means I’ve been playing too much as a way of avoiding my anxieties. Win some, lose some, I guess.

Family is a tool for control and a strange way of reaching immortality via legacy. Screw that.

It's control because you can make family accountable for the action of one of its member. So the family itself will make sure every member behave.

it's also the way people expect to make their "empire" survive them. They want you to success at what they did, they want you to raise children because they want their family to survive. It's not necessarily bad, but it is when the will of the child isn't respected.

And the worst part is family is always a figure of authority. So the weight of its will is always heavy.

And I mean, I do like my family. I think I was pretty lucky, even if it isn't perfect. I like most people in it, most of the time.

But it's not because they are my family. It's because they are agreeable people. Good people even. Most of them anyway.

Family is important because it's the social environment you grow up with. I really don't think it should be celebrated like it is in our society. (or societies? Is there a society that doesn't do this? )

Trello users of Mastodon: thanks for the encouraging words.

I'm in a very small team and not at all interested in project management, so I'm mostly struck by the irony of replacing "email your co-worker" with "update Trello, thus sending an email to your co-worker". I'm sure it makes my boss' life easier, though, and it seems fairly painless to use.

(And minus points for an Orson Scott Card reference on the sign-up page. Tells me something about the company that they've never fixed that.)

New manager is keen on something called Trello? It seems basically fine, but I'm not convinced it's very different from email.
