I would _very_much_ like to be alone, in a quiet room with good light, off the ground but not so high up as to disconnect me from the world.

A more interesting question than whether Guns are Woke would be to what extent we think the State can act as a check on the power of capital and what that means for efforts to replace both with something better.

Things you need to at least consider when talking about gun control in an American context include:
- Most guns in the States are owned by rich white people.
- American gun marketing and the resulting gun culture is racist as hell and centred around protection of property.
- The standard excuse for police shootings is fear that the victim might have had a gun.

PSA: "Progressive" arguments against gun control are not a good look.

Just finished Welcome Week at the university where I work, and I’m reminded that it’s the students who make me proud to work there. This year we have:

- Mandatory consent workshops as a part of enrolment, run by the Students Union.
- SU briefings on “your rights at protests” and “your rights during stop-and-search” for new students.
- A better pay deal for postgraduate teaching staff, after two years of campaigning and industrial action.
