Wouldn't mind trying Secret World Legends, but the install repeatedly crashes my PC with about a 25% chance of a BIOS error when it reboots.

(I mean, yes, it's actually taken from an old SF novel, but H Beam Piper's version is never properly explained and doesn't make much sense.)

Running a game of Traveller for the first time in many years and I've just realised the "feudal technocracy" government type is a euphemism for state socialism.

I think my PC is on the way out, which is a shame because I resent basically everything about choosing and buying a new PC.

(I'm particularly thinking of the tendency for stories to echo Protestant conversion narratives rather than, say, the cautionary tales of divine intervention in Classical or Viking culture, but there's also the interesting tension between polytheistic and monotheistic ideas of what a god is for.)

Just read Paladin of Souls and first thought is that there's a dissertation to be written about the uncomfortable relationship American Protestant culture has with fantasy polytheism.
