Lunch at Hutong, halfway up the Shard. They have security scanners now and insisted on taking my pocket multi-tool off me. Not quite sure what they think the risk is?

@kara I think it’s a thing people grow beyond, on the whole. Getting bored with the Discourse is part of a learning process - though that’s not to say the Discourse is natural, inevitable, or good.

@jk Worried by the implications of today’s 80s nostalgia replacing the 90s nostalgia of five years ago.

I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Even when doing it for "good" like ridiculing awful comments, you are giving awful comments more eyeballs that way. No quote toots. Thank's

@kara Loveable but untrustworthy; wears mask.

@kellycrow @kara How vulnerable would you be on an instance that didn’t index toots, I wonder?

@kellycrow @kara It’s certainly something to watch for - and speak to the devs about - but it seems to me that what we now have was made with safety in mind, and I think that’s a good sign.

@nonbinary You have white privilege though, even as you experience oppression because you’re not cis. And as long as you fail to acknowledge the privilege you do have then I’m afraid you are part of the problem, just as I am.

Structural racism isn’t a conspiracy - it’s the sum of all the unthinking prejudices and assumptions we learn that make it easier to be white in our society.

take: the outdated stereotypical image of the "worker" as a straight, masculine manual labourer is an albatross around the neck of the left

@kellycrow @kara Are public toot searches on the roadmap now? I thought it was just your own toots and favs.

Conversation turned to Scottish food and now I’m looking at pictures of munchy boxes and reminding myself I’m at least twenty years too old to eat on without injury.

@Noelle808 I feel responsible now... hope it's fun.
