Fox prints in the snow in the garden this morning, and a touch of fox scent. Looks like they came by for a drink from the pond but found it was frozen. I’ve made a hole in the ice for now, but I expect it’ll freeze up again by the evening.
@cardboard And on a very basic procedural level this obviously is thing the US government is getting wrong, because their passport application process should cover all the options allowed on a citizen’s birth certificate.
@cardboard Being picky, most of mankind’s existence is the Palaeolithic, and we know basically nothing about Palaeolithic cultures and how they might have constructed gender.
Even if we stick to recorded history there are plenty of cultures with “third-gender” categories of various kinds - and intersex people, of course, have always existed.

@dzuk Also... solarpunk soylent is an interesting idea, but I wonder how many of its advantages come from economies of scale that wouldn’t apply so well on a smaller scale.
@dzuk Not inherently dystopic, I think, but inherently utilitarian, which interacts badly with capitalism’s pressures to maximise utility.

Latest on the UCU strike over pensions is apparently that Universities UK has called for further talks... as long as they’re not about the decision to cut pensions.

Because this is SOAS, the picket line has a sound system blasting (for some reason) J-Lo at top volume. Which, to be honest, is better in theory than in practise.
