@BadWrongFun I just dropped a campaign two-thirds of the way through for the same reason. I feel kind of bad about it, but I was always on the back foot and it was making me anxious.

@meowntaineer *googles* That sounds very Japanese, in a good way. I'll look it up.

@srol I’ve read them but I don’t have much to offer on the calendar thing, except perhaps that it’s probably based on astrology-obsessed Joseon Korea?

@hollyamory I guess for me it's a reminder that when the private sector is efficient, it's with the end of accumulating concentrated wealth to be squandered.

Although equally, if it was anarchists firing a police car into the sun I expect I'd be applauding it as the triumph of exuberance over efficiency.

TIL that the Falcon Heavy test launch is going to be carrying a car as test payload/publicity stunt. No one who feels exuberant passes by it
No happy person comes forth from it
From it’s threshold wailing is brought forth
...
...wailing...
...wailing...”

@sophia It’s good stuff, though it gets a bit slow in the middle. So if you’re in the mood for melodrama and gnostic overtones then I’d recommend it.

@cryptovexillologist I see people wearing them here in London, where the temperature rarely gets lower than about -2 Centigrade.

@InspectorCaracal Ah, OK. Then it sounds like all you’re really saying is that we’re adding another layer of critical infrastructure. Which is certainly true.
As for information as power... I’d say money and political power are inseparable and that what actually happens in a technological revolution is that the tiny minority who are able to get rich from it become part of the existing ruling class.

@InspectorCaracal You seemed to be granting a unique virtue to “computer education”. My point is that there’s no single specialty that allows complete control of a complex technology.
(Which is why - veering back to politics - power accumulates around the ability to grant or deny access, not the ability to create it.)

@InspectorCaracal And the same is true if they do have a software education. You’d need to be a chip designer and a software engineer and an electronic engineer and an inorganic chemist and...
