To summarise my opinions in the CWs... What if soylent, but solarpunk?
Unless you're the bad kind of environmentalist who dislikes something just because it looks unnatural (everything is normally processed somehow, and that can be bad, but you can scrutinise the processing method and not just dismiss all of it in a reactionary way). I don't see what is necessarily inherently dystopic about the idea of 'hey, we made foodstuffs that can fulfil basic nutrition requirements at a lower energy and logistical cost and it's vegan too'.
@dzuk Not inherently dystopic, I think, but inherently utilitarian, which interacts badly with capitalism’s pressures to maximise utility.
@dzuk (On the other hand, I’m aware there are people who have difficulties with food for one reason or another who find the utilitarian approach of soylent is exactly what they need.)
@dzuk Also... solarpunk soylent is an interesting idea, but I wonder how many of its advantages come from economies of scale that wouldn’t apply so well on a smaller scale.
