i think about this line more than any other line of text i think
[eve kosofsky sedgwick, “queer and now”]
how to tell kids
who are supposed
never to learn this
that, farther along
the road widens
and the air brightens
that in the big world

to get used to it
one thing that happens in gender studies is you get a bunch of people reading lines like this and trying to do theory to it like "hmm… imagining queer worlds… alternate subjectivities…" but really it's just a line about trying to keep everyone alive
i don't think it's really possible to be good at gender studies or theory or politics if you don't understand that struggle and that precarity to be quite honest
in a deep way, that "how to tell…", the magnitude of it, and that need
