I think one of the major clarifying things I brought out of 2016 is that it's a mistake to think that the electorate has some fixed beliefs politicians must align to. Look at opinion polls on trade and Russia among GOP voters before and after the Trump campaign. So when Dems say leftist ideas aren't possible due to unpopularity, all I hear is that nobody is championing them
@zylophone We just proved that wrong in the UK! Our right-wing party just lost their majority to a party all the media was saying was un-electable due to their 'extreme left wing views' (not really that left wing compared to the rest of Europe, but much more than they have been for years).
