I do not feel like hosting an instance, but on the other hand I could do it of course.

Do we have any idea how many ressources a mastodon instance needs?

@fruchtblase Oh, I was asking more about RAM/CPU/Storage/Traffic. Ruby on Rails stuff is so hungry compared to go or such.
The instance itself I could run highly available and self-healing on a little Kubernetes cluster.
Maybe even together with other instances to save money and labour.
This might of course defy some of the purpose of federation.

@fruchtblase but all of these thoughts are very spontaneous. I have experience with Kubernetes, but none with Mastodon.

@fruchtblase well, would you be willing to labour on the community work? this is likely much more work then the hosting stuff.

@fruchtblase with hosing i meant the technical hosting of course. community work is definitely part of the hosting in general.

@nicolai (the admins for instances like witches.town/anticapitalis.party/mastodon.social are pretty aproachable, too)

@nicolai @fireantprincess it's doable for small instances with less than maybe 50 users. There's a discord channel you can join by supporting Gargron on patreon where many instance admins hangout. The admins of cybre.space and toot.cafe are also pretty cool.
If you want me to set up a server for you I could help out, but I don't have the time or resources to be a proper admin. I'd suggest starting with a scaleway VC1M, Ubuntu and docker.
