@stitchfeather Yes! That's one of my favourite things. I can squirrel away "at home" if I want, or wander outside and people watch. It's great!

Rapport definitely helps! That's part of what made my first AW game so much more comfortable than it could have been, given how much that system is dialogue-/description-driven. Playing with friends, we were all new to it, and just zero bothers were given, you know?

@shaunduke I'm a weirdo and really like Do! Pilgrims of the Flying Temple, The Dresden Files RPG, Apocalypse World. I also adore more trad games like Pathfinder, Exalted. Not a huge fan of social combat-heavy games 'cause I suck at improv. Give me dice and fun/interesting mechanics, and I'll give it a go.
Oh, also -- check out dice.camp! The entire instance is geared toward tabletop gamers. :D

LB articulates part of the reason I've (surprisingly to me) taken so quickly to Mastodon. Being on LJ, oh, you know, over 15 years ago, was a completely different entity than social media today. And I liked it (and here) a lot better because of this. Not that I want to yell at anyone, but because it's smallish and community-ish and *lovely.*
actually the thing about mastodon that keeps hitting me is that it's a return to the governance model of the internet of the 90s, which is the "local dictator", with a single admin or a small mod team who are the sole owners and operators of a site. and like, oh right, anybody who's only used, say, twitter and facebook and youtube and tumblr and myspace and so forth and so on would have had absolutely no exposure to, because all major social media platforms online for the past ten years or so have been huge corporate monoliths (or wannabe huge corporate monoliths). getting mad at brad on livejournal was a very different thing than getting mad at jack on twitter or david karp on tumblr, because lj was brad's site in a way that was very different from jack being CEO of twitter

A lot of Indy Comics Twitter has descended upon Mastodon.social, grinding @Gargron's image server to a halt.
If y'all decide you’re serious about this place, let me make a suggestion: if you’re part of a collective, then maybe your group should think about running an instance. If nobody in your collective is crazy enough to start one from scratch, there’s always places like masto.host, which make it pretty damn easy.
Also consider throwing a little $ into the Patreon for both whatever instance you end up on, and/or for overall Mastodon development. We don’t have VC or advertisers paying the bills, let’s keep it that way.
