@unascribed on-GPU compression can go at 6:1 - 12:1, so that 64MiB-per-texture would potentially be only 5-10MiB if the engine was well-written. You can run a whole game at 4096x.

@LottieVixen Gradle build scripts are written in a language named Groovy right now. But that's just the first language they supported. It could be anything the gradle team feels like setting up. Looks like Haskell is next, and Haskell solves a lot of groovy's problems.
