making a game taking parts from Elite Dangerous, EVE Online, Starmade
I've had this idea for a while and having played all three now I've learned what i certainly DONT want in my game.
@LottieVixen this is reminding me that falk and I still need to make a somewhat-voxelly space game...
@unascribed Heck..... that sounds fun, starmade-y ?
@LottieVixen fully user-customizable ships, yes, but pretty much none of the other starmade stuff
planets wouldn't be made entirely of voxels for example, they'd just have voxel additions to their terrain, and they'd be properly spherical, and the game would take place in the Milky Way (because the milky way is damn huge)
@LottieVixen and no. fucking. shops. I hated that in starmade
@LottieVixen the voxel engine I've talked about occasionally is ideas directly resulting from this, and one of the things we want to use the voxel engine for is it
@unascribed I... like i like
@LottieVixen the game's working title is Motlio, and the voxel engine is... Voxlio
we're really creative I know
was going to feature a non-trivial plot, and we were talking about non-intrusive MMO-ish features
@unascribed @LottieVixen I am never not interested in that. One big thing the engine plan addresses is, there's no good way to bend voxels into a sphere. The key decision: We don't have to. Reentry and exit are naturally chaotic events that can smooth over a transition between the flat and spherical representations. The thing that's *actually* important to me is that I can see my castle or factory from space.
Ugh... so many ideas, so little time!
