im looking for startup jobs and almost every company says "we are a well funded young company", which makes me laugh... no one is a profitable. they all sound pretty pathetic. i doubt any will ever turn a profit.

Reminds me of a talk by Dan Lyons [1] who found himself in one of these silly startups. One of his slides titled "The Motto of the New Economy" says: grow fast, lose money, go public, cash out. Startups don't do anything else than selling their own companies to richer assholes.
