I really liked The Thick of It despite the fact it was pretty offensive.
Then it started with saying 'tranny' and okay fuck it now it's hitting home I feel kinda shitty about liking it.
I don't mind when it takes the piss out of people with shite mental health, because I have shite mental health and that's something I can defend myself on.
I don't know why transphobia hurts me so much more than ableism?
@edensaesthetic Maybe it's that so many more people use those slurs and *really mean it* and there are so many people who will do harm to others on that basis. It's by no means safe in this society to have mental health issues, but it's a whole different level.
@gzt Yeah I think that's it? Like when someone uses a derogatory MH slur, it's kinda.. normalised as they don't really mean the actual condition, they mean just a worse version of weird/unusual/unreasonable.
And t-slur is not that. It's personal and hateful.
