big news masto, i'm moving back to michigan in a year or possibly a little less

most likely spot is ann arbor, i want to be near detroit and my SO understandably doesn't want to commute through detroit traffic for his new job (which will not be in detroit)

hit me up with your cool southeast michigan friends and nerd things to do (and if you're a librarian in the area give gainful employment pls and thank u)

the good news is the rogue deck that i built several years ago did pretty well when i tried a couple matches? not sure if that's because they're matching me with similar tier decks or if they've actually managed to keep things balanced but i'll take it either way

Today I realized that I cannot expect people on the Internet to have heard of the Geek Social Fallacies any more.

The Geek Social Fallacies are five things that geeks often believe about How Socializing Should Work, that cause a lot of conflict. I've found them to be pretty useful as a way to put a handle on certain concepts, and maybe even avoid going into bad situations.

(Looking at them in 2017, I find myself wondering how many of the GSFs the design of most social networks is running straight into...)

humans: hahaha yeah

humans: it did tho

Okay, I’m building entries now for the site. Queer/POC/Marginalized creators of any kind, if you’d like to have an entry on thequeer.community please email me at submission@thequeer.community.

I’d like to build a website for people to find marginalized creators of any kind. Youtubers, comic artists, streamers, physical goods makers, cooks; if you make something I’d like to add you.

Then when I was fourteen I read Scott McCloud’s “Reinventing Comics” and it blew my mind. The industry you think of as “comics” is a SCAM, man! Webcomics are gonna blow print out of the water in quality and variety! Small transactions will utterly capsize how we support creators! The infinite canvas will become a standard narrative tool! The book caught a lot of flak at the time for seeming too optimistic and far fetched, but it made me feel like I was riding a rocket that was just taking off 🚀

People are sharing how they got into comics so: I’d been a fan of newspaper strips since I was very very young, but I was one of those child prodigy types and I figured I’d be a scientist or an architect or a novelist— something serious. in middle school I started making comics in math class because I was intensely bored by algebra class. Trouble was, time went on, and school started to seem less and less important, while comics seemed more and more important
