@benhamill part 2 of this is not to take it personally when people (esp women) don't receive your compliments well. communication is hard, especially on the internet, and sometimes people will misinterpret you. that's ok! everyone is coming into the situation with preconceptions and sometimes you just have to take those lumps and not spend everyone's time/energy trying to prove you're a good person. if you did your best and didn't get through, that's fine, see if you can learn from it but don't be discouraged from trying to communicate with people in general
