@ebeth The network effect of Twitter is strong enough to keep people there, as much as they will pretend otherwise.

It is an effort to learn new things and make them work, and this stalls adoption. Plus, you're up against a huge marketing bombardment that is enveloping most places.

In facebook (no longer using it) some people actually get creeped out if you visit their profile and view/like old photos they shared for everyone to see.

yeah facebook is in a weird space, i found it really jarring when i first got it (~2007 iirc) because it was the first time people i knew irl we're making contact online. before then i had always thought of the internet and the physical world as separate places

i don't use it much these days either but ironically i actually have a few internet friends that i'm only in contact with there, so i'm hesitant about deleting it

I tried to keep in touch with a couple of FB friends via email. It worked for sometime, but eventually failed.
