@RobStorm from what i've seen so far people have tended to join in waves. i suppose if mastodon ever gets to a point where numbers are consistently increasing at this level every day that's a possibility, but i also think part of the reason how-to's are dominating the timelines right now is because mastodon isn't that well known. i would think if it gets popular enough that this many people are joining every day there wouldn't be as much of a need for these explanations

but so far at least days like this are unusual
