I'm tempted to say "recommend me sci-fi or history books" but my "to read" list always get bigger

Why did i start a new book a few days before the next Laundry Files book came out (today!)? Damn it. I gotta read fast

"It took a lot more than the 1967 ‘decriminalisation’ of to improve gay men’s lives"

Interesting article about how rights in the was/is a long progress. In many ways male sex was illegal until quite recently in the UK. It wasn't just made legal in 1967.

What are people's thoughts on ? I love my ereader, and switched to ebooks when I got it. It's great to have easy access to lots of books, to carry around lots, I love the accessibility benefits of them, I love how easy it is to share/backup ebooks. I love I have a backlight and can read in bed without disturbing anyone sleeping in the bed.

Before I go on a trip I panickly load up my ereader with . WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO READ! LOAD EM UP!

I need to pack, but I hate packing. So I'm gonna do a little bit each day over a few days

I BOOST THE RAINS DOWN IN

TERFs: why don't you learn biology
Biologists: everything is weird and nothing means what you think
TERFs: NO. LIKE WHEN I WAS IN 6TH GRADE

Nerds: is cool because of bodyhacking and questions about our assumptions of identity
people: Hi
Nerds: No not like that

One thing I didn't expect from is how people actually respond to my toots/jinxes. I ask a question, looking for information, and I actually get useful info from many people. I've tried that on a few times, nada. And I've used twitter for years, and follow many people I know personally.

I love you fellow witches (and mastonaughts)! Let's keep the corner of the Internet wonderful!

So the has approved as part of a web spec 😢

It's possible for DRM to be used for good. Imagine if all a person's personal data was protected by DRM? Where a company needed to contact your server to decrypt the person data, where you could revoke their access keys (and hence "delete" your data), where you, were able to control what sort of software could access your personal data.

Course, DRM is for big corps to control copyright, the hell with us humans & our , and many corps make money from our personal data.

I have solved my "stream local on my phone" problem. Just install minidlna on your machine, point it to the directory. Then use VLC on your phone and you can browser and playback videos seamlessly! Make your own Netflix! It uses the DLNA & UPnP protocols to stream videos over the network and works automatically.

for the help

Dear lazy web. I have an phone. I have a computer on my local network with lots of . How can I watch those videos on my phone over the network in some sort of manner? I want open source stuff (for ) which I can host myself.

(though I also love Nanny Ogg, who was also a hacker)

I should write something about the philosophy in ... It just occurred to me that it's a thing that could be explored. Some hacker writers (eg esr) have gone all libertarian, and it's a common worldview in tech/hackers, would be nice to build up listing of our culture that's not like that.

Friend on birdsite is looking for recs for online LGBTQ/feminist friendly sci-fi/fantasy writing groups. Anyone able to help out?
