@elomatreb @cypnk The best way I heard it put is: "technology is neither good nor bad; nor is it neutral".
@Nixfreak that's just for hosting, right? I'll probably put it in many places rather than one silo.
There are numerous unfixed problems on my existing sites, and I have lots of half finished things. I really should do them before starting new projects.
There are videos of me online talking, giving talks, so I'm not opposed to that. But it should be *possible* to take part in things like that (making videos) without *having* to reveal identifying information. One way to find out how possible it is, is to try it myself.
I am thinking about making tutorial #videos for a topic (since that's all the rage today). And I'm wondering how to do it with #OpenSource tools while remaining "anonymous", i.e. text-to-speech instead of my own voice. Just to see.
Laughing a bit at "advice to young [insert career here]" things that basically advise single-handedly changing the market to be paid fairly for your work but don't advise e.g. joining a union or building a community of solidarity. Good luck with that.
Oooooohhhh Charlie Stross has a new #book out! "Dark State"
@jd @starbreaker which then opens the question, who was the first heterosexual president of the USA? There weren't any until 1920s!
The invention of ‘heterosexuality’
http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20170315-the-invention-of-heterosexuality
'The 1901 Dorland’s Medical Dictionary defined heterosexuality as an “abnormal or perverted appetite toward the opposite sex.” More than two decades later, in 1923, Merriam Webster’s dictionary similarly defined it as “morbid sexual passion for one of the opposite sex.” It wasn’t until 1934 that heterosexuality was graced with the meaning we’re familiar with today: “manifestation of sexual passion for one of the opposite sex; normal sexuality.”
Whenever I tell this to people, they respond with dramatic incredulity. That can’t be right! Well, it certainly doesn’t feel right. It feels as if heterosexuality has always “just been there.”...'
Whoops. My new year resolution to do an #OpenStreetMap edit per day failed. Forgot to do something yesterday.
@duck57 Someone did that in Ireland to the house of one of the failed rich property developers who was trying to claim to be hard done by

Promote decentralisation.
i.e. Avoid, and resist, centralization.
@Elizafox A science museum, but it's a lesbian bar called "The Double Slit Experiment"
A forgotten part of the 1990s is how homicidally scared adults were of any child that could use a computer.
I fear the corporate types (mostly Americans) will get their hands on this new money for #OSMF and do something corporate or something. "Let's pay for a consultation for a strategic brand campaign" 🤢
Someone (Pineapple Fund) has donated €200k worth of #BitCoin to the #OpenStreetMap Foundation. That's a lot for the #OSMF! A bit game-changing for #OSM!

I have mastodon plans! 😉
@Gargron cool, thanks. 😀👍🏻
Friendly reminder that copyleft licenses are not here to prevent you from doing anything you want but to compel you to give what you build upon the community efforts back to the community.
@Gargron Is it true that MaaStodon.net hosts mastodon.social? https://maastodon.net/instances/
I want to set up my own instance, and if they do m.s then that's very encouraging! 😁😁
