I'm reading the book for the life in Britain test. The chapter on Britain's illustrious history could not be more desiccated. Every iota of poetry is removed from the language. Defeats are glossed over on this history of the triumphs of important men.
It's the histories that people a decade older than me might have still learned in school. Long since abandoned by historians and pedagogy. It is, itself, a historical relic of empire. No wonder Theresa May introduced it.
