@chosafine Facebook is already "free traffic" on many providers. Making Mastodon or Diaspora second-rate netizens (since Facebook will be able to pay for the "premium" access to users) is a simple business decision. Which will drive more people to Facebook and make the lock-in stronger.

As long as these are users (by simply rising the prices of plans), that's transparent and not a huge problem.
But as soon as providers start to a). tier services (you have to by a more costly tier to get less popular services, for instance); and/or b). demand payment from smaller content providers just because they cannot say no, the Internet is not going to be the same.
