@ChristianD @h I think some US people did try to argue that in the 90s for crypto. They claimed that strong encryption was essentially a weapon, and hence the US gov couldn't regulate it (which they were trying to do).

People pointed out that if that tactics were used, it would be much easier for non-US countries to ban crypto. "See it's a weapon!"
