I have strong feelings about tech groups habe a #CodeOfConduct. They should target bigots, but not be usable to tone police marginalised people
I am ambivalent about a #CodeOfConduct having a "be polite & respectful". It's a very good advice in general, and when you first meet someone. But it's not as bad as bigotry, and there are times when it's not bad at all.

+1 on caution over politely expressed hideous sentiments. I also worry about the prevalence of the Reiser defense. But I would never argue against having a clear CoC

Someone on OSMF had already said "events aimed at women are sexist against men" 🤦♀️
This is why some CoCs have a thing saying they won't entertain "reverse sexism" complaints (eg LGBT in Tech slack)
