I have strong feelings about tech groups habe a . They should target bigots, but not be usable to tone police marginalised people

I am ambivalent about a having a "be polite & respectful". It's a very good advice in general, and when you first meet someone. But it's not as bad as bigotry, and there are times when it's not bad at all.

@ebel wasn't it node where a CoC violation was used against someone who'd raised issues originally, basically on "reverse bigotry" grounds? reddit.com/r/node/comments/6wh painful recursive infighting :/

+1 on caution over politely expressed hideous sentiments. I also worry about the prevalence of the Reiser defense. But I would never argue against having a clear CoC

@zool ung. I had forgotten that, but I remember hearing about that.

Someone on OSMF had already said "events aimed at women are sexist against men" 🤦‍♀️

This is why some CoCs have a thing saying they won't entertain "reverse sexism" complaints (eg LGBT in Tech slack)
