I need to release more of the half baked #OpenStreetMap programmes that I have. Got a few guides/blog posts I should write as well.
It's important to be positive and creative and constructive.
@ebel I really could do with a "newbies" guide to this. I wanted to put the antenna mast location of our community radio station on #openstreetmap, but also noticed the high school building it is on is completely wrongly dimensioned.
the young lad who also does tech for the station *went* to that school himself so he would know what is and isn't correct. I did sign up for an account but don't want to go and accidentally trash the map for everyone else..
@vfrmedia I can help. If you want you can add the mast itself without touching the building. Or you can clean up the building. *Some* buildings are mapped in detail, for 3d rendering, some aren't. If you give me the area, I can tell you what is what
@vfrmedia There's often aerial imagery which can help. if you know "It's on the corner of that building" you can map it from aerial. etc.
@ebel unfortunately what I found was the aerial imagery is offset by a few metres and then the vector drawing of the building doesn't match the (fairly recent) photography either; to me it looks much more like the *older* school building (the sixth form got shifted elsewhere, hence why the new one is a lot smaller). So I didn't want to put inaccurate info on the map. The mast(s) themselves are on the roof of the building, attached to a metal rail that is up there for airco maintenance staff
