All this talk about networks, and I really should just join 🙂

I wonder if you can realistically create small devices with & solar panels & software and then leave/hide them around a city to help build up a and fill in holes.

Guerrilla Networking 🙂✊🏴

@ebel Apparently some Dutch hackers were doing that in some places but they tend to get found and removed quite quickly as building owners don't like it (some might have tapped the 230V).

Also roof access to buildings in many areas is much more highly restricted/watched due to fear over kids doing #parkour and falling off them. Ofc if you have friends with a tall building then it can still be done (its how most Freifunk nodes work)

@vfrmedia You need a drone to carry a little device (w/ solar power & battery) to the top and place the network node there. 😈

@ebel alas, drones / UAVs are increasingly watched for/regulated in UK, NL and DE (all fairly recent due to people using them in genuinely dangerous ways). I know one of the main co-ordinators of Freifunk Austria from Flickr and will try and get her to join up on here...

@vfrmedia I would be curious if you have any links to when people did that. 🙂

@ebel if you mean the Dutch "piratenboxes" it was a discussion on our Matrix for tchncs.de, unfortunately quite a while ago. They were based on Raspberry PI's with wifi. I think some (legit) ones also exist in hackerspaces.
