@frankiesaxx I've been doing that, but mostly because it's good content (oh God did I just say that 😮) that I think people here would like. I social networks are like chicken and the egg. Nothing interesting there, so no-one takes part. I'm trying to make mastodon more benefital for people...
I quote & link to the original tweet because it's a bit sneaky not to.
@vfrmedia @ebel
Yeah. I think if you're quoting someone's actual text (joke, observation, etc) then it's good to link them otoh if the point is just to share a link someone else shared elsewhere I don't think it's necessary to link to where they shared it. If for some reason you feel weird about not crediting someone for boosting 3rd party content you can always say (via username on Twitter) or something which doesn't have the effect or redirection to Twitter for the content.
@frankiesaxx @vfrmedia oh I think I understand what you mean. I might be thinking of something different.
I agree that it's bad when someone toots "look at this joke https://twitter.com/user/123", which requires you to go to twitter to see the content.
Whereas I copypaste the content into mastodon, with a link back for attrib, but you don't need to go to twitter to see it.
@ebel
I think that's a hard problem. You definitely don't want to copy the text without citing the original somehow.
@ebel @frankiesaxx i've often found (at least for German content) the birbsite link contains the original link to something decent, but it would be better then to post the original link here. (I've at least resisted the temptation to post yet another link to "Takeo Ischi's Chicken Attack" 😀 🐓 )
