Thinking about how recent social networks have shifted from topic-focused (bbforums, reddit, image boards) to person-focused (tumblr, twitter, etc.) where rather than subscribing to a topic and space where anyone participates in the conversation that way, you subscribe to a specific person and everything that they have to say. on twitter nothing you say will be seen unless people are following you; or if you post to a hashtag which is, let's be honest, not commonly looked at.

@shel @lifning I remember seeing a presentation from Google when they were launching Google plus that mentioned this. It said the Web used to be page or site focused, and the social web is person focused.

@ebel @shel yeah, and G+ did end up having some community features to it... i'm sure both of the G+ users appreciate them.

growing up on the internet in the age of topic-focused forums is literally the only reason i pursued the interests i did to the point that i developed the skills that got me my current job... i wonder what my little cousins can expect as they grow up in this person-oriented blagosphere 🤔

@lifning @shel I too want more topic focused spaces. I have many interests and don't think everyone I know will overlap with all.

Are you aware of "geek social fallacies"? Sounds like many tech geeks who believe those fallacies are controlling our social interactions 🙁
