Vulnerable, but not to you. @drcable@witches.town

@Alda cool(yeah and I get that's a thing big scale. ), lmk if you want a hand setting things up, and I really would love an interview(1h, w/e conditions you need) if you have time.

@yellowibowtie oh hi you're over here too :) I don't think scholar social is a big enough for this to work as a useful experiment, but I'm totaly up for it.

@Alda no but seriously it might be a good idea to have some kind of proccesses set up for appealing instance blocks/moderation descisions/etc even if only as an example for other instances.

@Alda @drcable to be fair I'd think a plurality of witches who actually agree on something completely would be terrifying enough

Uh I'm discoursing too much so unlisted:

there's lots of paralells between how nation-states relate, and how instances do. the ability to redirect your main is totaly a call for freedom of movement(with totally different amounts of consequences, but maybe not in ten years)

@Clarabel nah, I masto-discourse too good for @Alda to ban me (also, alda acting like a dictator on here would be the fastest way to mass complaints/departures and then to democracy :p)

@Alda what's the democratic process for removing you from power, out of interest? (no like really out of interest you do a great job I'm just a sociologist)

Anyway, who wants to start a witches.town(and broader) faction, lobbying for aggressive defederation for instances, democratic accountability for admins/mods(wait, could a majority vote depose alda and move the town onto different servers/etc? I have no desire to, but _could it_?) and to push for a bloc of admins who'll threaten mass-defederation of instances that host hate speech and harrassment?

Federation/defederation is massive, because it's actually fulfilling the promise it made- distributed power. Multiple admins threatening to defederate a place can actually force the instance ot get its act together and use the moderation tools/softer power(admin tweets about what's acceptable, call outs, codes of conduct) to change the norms to be inline with the bloc of instances arguing.

If instance admins can listen to their residents (and residents can organise) we have somthing that looks like a usable representive democracy(modulo capital to run an instance, but here that's crowdfunded anyway?)

Seriously though the birdsite has blocks and private DMs/posts and all those good things but still has a massive harassment problem because moderation and social norms allow it. The solution to harrassment isn't a techfix.

@meena I've read both, and while they're the better of the lot, my experince with design says there's still a _long_ way to go.

Toots have value, and when an instance freely gives those to another instance I believe it is not different than a gift given in the spirit of mutual aid. I believe in sharing that value will allow others to share value with us.

If that gift is abused and used to exploit instead of contribute to mutual aid, then we have the freedom to no longer give that gift. Free and voluntary association is an important thing.

@ghost_bird murder most fowl, murder most insects, murder most...you see where I'm going here

@cadey like, he doesn't seem to be taking people asking him to stop as harrasment in his toots?

too hard to make a list of people to mention here, sorry about that, @theoutrider @sydneyfalk @Alda @polymerwitch

I heard you, don't worry, I'll cut this for a while because I'm afk for a few days and that's the only thing I can do from here, I'll take time to read/answer/address your comments when I'm back!
