I can relate a teeny tiny bit – being strong while feminine/feminine while strong feels like a mighty middle finger to traditional ideals of femininity. But on the other hand, I had to craft my own definition of femininity long ago.

@necrosis I did, but not until my hair was longer. So I can't judge what it will do to your stick-up hair. I went silicone derivate-free 10 years ago and I found silicone free leave-ins don't do that much for my hair.

But your mileage may vary. I've heard some ppl even use small amounts of pure silicone oil as a leave-in.

@necrosis ah, I forgot: oil is best applied to damp (ideally nearly, but not altogether dry) hair.

@necrosis been there, done that the 2 times in my life that I had short hair... the good news: for me, that went away as soon as I had my hair past earlobe length. Of course, curly/wavy hair might stay more unruly for a longer time. (My hair is fine and straight.)

My ideas: use rich conditioner, and/or a drop of oil* spread across your palms and then rub it gently through your hair. *any (neutral-smellingl oil from the pantry will do, except linseed.
