oh no. while I was writing a general rant about cars and the environment, I read on my birbsite bike list that cyclists in our city gather tonight to mourn another #cyclist killed in traffic yesterday.

it's the first traffic death this year in #berlin. Again, it was a truck turning right. Again. Wow many more will have to die?

and if we live in a world where cars are required, it is on us to make it a different world, where they're not required as much.

in addition to that, I wrote: "less cars or no cars" and some people read: "no cars".

I'm not a dogmatic extremist. but it's not dogmatic or extreme to see that we're suffocating ourselves in dust and pollutants, that we exploit the earth and profit off the poverty of millions of people with our excessive lifestyle and that we push more people into poverty taking away their resources to keep using up more than there really is.

and we've got to stop punishing people who take it on themselves to use no cars. we've got to start rewarding ppl who don't use cars, especially in cities.

yesterday I got some replies where people told me that in modern society #cars are required.

that may be. to a certain point. BUT
- not to the extent they are used right now!
- it is not required to build massive, tank-like SUV's that take up lots of space and pollute the world more, use up more resources
- cars could be much more effective and use less energy as they do. cars could be smaller, lighter and slower.
- it is not required to reserve as much space in cities for cars as is the case now, cities have public transport
- cars and fuel should be made more expensive, with support for ppl (disabled ppl) who really need them.

every january I air out my whole yarn stash. after that I'm super happy and motivated to knit, because I reveled in all this gorgeous #yarn and want to KNIT ALL OF IT

then I come dangerously close to getting repetitive stress injuries from #knitting... but I wanna kniiiiiit waaaahhhhhhhhhh

Ok it is really time to take a knitting break now. I've got plenty of other cool things to do - yes it's my day off!

today i went to my fave bike shop and I met the very trusted bike mechanic and we chatted a bit about the #cyclingtour of last summer.

I am so lucky to know my bike in really really good hands!!
this time I got new brakes and I'm installing them myself tomorrow.

it's not that hard but I'm really clumsy at bike repairing.. i'm not clumsy at all at most other stuff but I don't have bike repair mojo..

I have just seen a recommendation here on mastodon for the documentary about #CFSME chronic fatigue syndrom that Jen Brea filmed from her bed. It is "Unrest".

I'm just now watching it on iTunes (it's on netflix right now too, but I have no netflix) and I think it's such an important film!
