#metal so yesterday #archenemy had their hockeyshirt in the merch booth and it had the number 18 on it.
I was made aware that it's because it's 2018 but an 18 on a sports team shirt is such a nazi code, one should really think twice about it.
I would never buy that. I like the idea but I would wait until next year or try to get one from last year.
I've written to one of those official band adresses and asked why there was an 18 on it because it simply didn't occur to me that it could be because of the year.
@Mightyflea I'm curious what they will write me back.
@distelfliege ...this could be a long year I guess.
@artsyhonker I think it's really because of the year. someone researched it and they had "17" shirts last year. and AE is a leftwing band, they have nothing to do with nazis..
@distelfliege Yeah. It took me a moment to remember the problem with 18, in all honesty.
@distelfliege ugh, no kidding
#metal update for the #archenemy merch question, why they had a hockey shirt with an 18 on it.. and they wrote me back that it's for the year 2018, that last year they had a 17 on them, and that they are a progressive and anti-fascist band.
hm well okay. thanks.
@distelfliege Huh. I know 14 and 88 are Nazi codes but this is the first I've heard anything about 18. Do you know where it comes from?
@mcmoots 88 is for "heil hitler" and 18 is for "adolf hitler" (the first and eighth letter of the alphabet being A+H) I didn't know about 14 though, i just searched for it and it's an american thing, not so popular in germany i guess. Or I'm uninformed
@distelfliege It's the number of words in an English slogan so I wouldn't expect it to translate. 18 makes sense now, thanks - I just haven't seen people use it here the way I've seen 88. Not sure if that means it's regional or if I'm just uninformed.
@mcmoots on the wikipedia page in german about nazi codes the "14 words" are mentioned and there is actually a german nazi band who did a song about them, so yeah it looks like I'm updated now :D
@distelfliege …yeah. Red flag for me too.
