I'm drinking muckefuck and found out that there is no real english word for this kind of coffee substitute? or is there? cichory coffe or barley coffee?
@ryusei@distelfliege ahh, it depends! Plain chicory was used during some US war. Dandelion root is popular in some circles. Mormons' drink of choice is Postum (which may or may not be still in supermarkets). I've been told that barley tea tastes similar to Postum.
@distelfliege (New Zealand) not many people drink it but I think it's usually known by brand name eg Caro, Inka; chicory coffee substitute might be understood.

Historically hot cocoa was the substitute for coffee in the US, I think
