I think situating Mastodon as the solution to #deletefacebook isn't quite correct, because I interact with Mastodon and other people on it like I did on Twitter, and to some extent Tumblr.
I think Diaspora is the federated Facebook, but in my (limited?) experience pretty much nobody uses Diaspora.
I joined Mastodon thinking "Nobody is going to use this. It's going to be like that week you spent on Diaspora." And then lots of people used Mastodon and it was great and I never went back to birdsite.
