A boss once told me straight up to my face that he was deliberately working me 29 hours a week so he could have a full time employee without having to get my benefits.

And wouldn't you know it, those hours were so erratic, I couldn't go look for another job. Retail and the service industry DOES THIS DELIBERATELY. They want to work you to death, pass the "cost of living" on to the worker, and make it so that you cannot possibly get ahead for fear of somebody else owning their "human resource".

The revolution cannot come fast enough, comrades.

If anyone's ever seen an open source software based online community start and then grow before: constant low-level intergroup drama is the normal state of things. "Old timers" from 6 months ago are always writing overwrought declarations about the crushed hopes and exploitation of the original community. People arriving now will do the same by the fall.
