computers in general surround themselves with an air of being bleeding-edge and ultramodern but most of that is superficial

really the world of computers and software is profoundly conservative. people haven't done the hard work to figure out, just how do we really _use_ these general-purpose tools we built

so we labor on with old models, old abstractions

and in a million ways and a million places

we are told
