I'm working on a tech policy/strategy for the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee. Twitter is essential to our organizing right now - in terms of helping spread the word and getting media coverage of our (and others') activity.

Mastodon could help spread the word to a more focused demographic: radical left, prison abolitionists, etc. but getting broader eyes on our work still requires Twitter.

Who else is in this predicament? How are you approaching it?

Anyone going to ElixirDaze conference in March? Today is the last day for early bird registration/pricing.

A is haunting modern processors--the specter of speculative execution attacks.

we shoulda been using lisp machines this whole time

you know those history lessons that go on about Big Names Of Science And Philosophy And The Nature Of Stuff all hanging out in coffeehouses and taverns, arguing at length about Truths which we are then handed on a plate?

you're there, at one of those coffeehouses, every time you're in the fediverse, and may I say you're making a pretty good showing for yourself.

@stop well yes, and also being a big enough nerd in both domains to demand a crossover.

Okay, I wrote Chessex an email detailing why I think they should expand their product selection to include keycaps for mechanical keyboards.

@stop MAybe I should write them a friendly email :thinkhappy:

Idea: Chessex the dice manufacturer should make keycaps for mechanical keyboards.

I bet if they used the same plastic as dice it would feel really good, and they already have a rad lineup of colors that they could mix for keys.

I bet there's a fair amount of overlap in their demographic of roleplay nerds with mechanical keyboard nerds.

where are the alternative branches of processor architecture waiting in the wings to leap upon this very bad (yet still overblown) vulnerability in the dominant strain?

they were market losers, and we have built markets that kill losers dead.

lacks of diversity evidence themselves /everywhere/ in our technology industry, and lacks of diversity cause systemic fragility.

I encourage you to start looking for ways to make your life more diverse in every aspect. Me too.

Oh hell yeah let's all go get old powermacs and fuck x86 altogether
